| Listed
below are various sites where you can secure web space.
If you are enrolled in RBV-ROP web design or computer
animation classes, you will be issued an account
where you can post your pages on our own web server. Web
space is maintained through the school year - from September
to the following August.
If you have Internet access at home check
with your Internet Service Provider. They often give you
a small amount of free space to create non-commercial pages.
That might be the best place to start.
If your budget is limited, and you have
purchased a domain name from Network Solutions or Register.com,
you may be entitled to limited free web space on their servers
that comes bundled with the domain name registration.(Read
the agreement carefully - Free is free. These companies
wish to sell you their web hosing services.) Domain registrations
are typically $32.00 a year.
If you want to control the administration of your web site,
purchase space of your own to house your pages. This is
the preferred method for business and professionally
maintained web sites. First purchase a domain name
and then choose a web site host. Web hosts charge a monthly
fee ranging from $10-50. This is the most reliable way to
publish content on the Internet.
You can also use any of the many free sites that
allow you to store pages. These work fine for most
beginners. Keep in mind though that many of these sites
may be slower than sites that you pay a monthly fee for.
Many teachers use these free sites if their district doesn't
have their own server. Check through the sites below and
make a choice of the one you want to use. Some of these
places also have built in software that allow you to create
the pages online using their software.
